You can give yourself a better chance of success if you buy an inexpensive box of plastic gloves like food establishments or medical personnel wear. Many fishers have reported that this is a good strategy.

Before you go carp fishing, it's best to be prepared by having some specialized knowledge of the area. You probably won't find all the different kinds of carp at any one location, as they vary. Common carp are found more frequently, but there are also silver carp, bighead carp, grass carp and other varieties. Each location you fish in will have its own peculiarities. A good rule of thumb when you arrive at an unfamiliar location is to talk with locals to get information about the area. If you can't do that, do an online search of the area. Even one small pond or lake may have certain spots that are much better for carp fishing than others. Once you find the right location, you have to learn the best feeding times for the carp. Some of this you'll learn from experience, but you can speed up the learning curve if you get some helpful advice first.

Needless to say, you have to keep your wits about you, and pay attention to the small details, when you go carp fishing. You need to pick your location carefully, use a type of bait that the carp will go after, and have sturdy tackle that can handle the often substantial weight of this kind of fish. With practice, patience and experience, you will soon discover that carp fishing is a lot of fun and not as hard as it may have seemed at first.
